Veils, Shadows, and Spaces of the Self
Galeria Subtítulo proudly announces the 10th-anniversary retrospective of Colombian artist Juan Sebastian, “Veils, Shadows, and Spaces of the Self”, showcased as a solo exhibition at SCOPE Miami Beach during Miami Art Week this December. This milestone celebrates a decade of Sebastian’s exploration of identity, ritual, and transformation through veiled figures, reflecting the evolution of his artistic vision.
Drawing on his Colombian heritage and symbolic use of fabric, Sebastian's work blends the visible and hidden, using veils as tools to reveal deeper truths. His veiled figures transcend traditional portraiture, portraying bodies free from fixed identities and exploring the tension between domesticity and the surreal. By weaving light, fabric, and gesture, Sebastian crafts transformative scenes that challenge perceptions of self and reality.
Rooted in ritualistic and cultural symbolism, his art evokes timeless narratives that merge personal stories with collective mythologies. This solo exhibition offers an intimate look at Sebastian’s career, highlighting how concealment has become a powerful medium for self-discovery.
